Front Cover Textual Analysis
The music magazine front cover features a colour close up of rapper 50cent, he is looking directly at the camera with his head slightly turned to the left. There isn’t much of a background to this poster due to the nature of the photograph, but the general theme is a dark kind of setting/mood. In front of the man is a Masthead saying ‘XXL’ and six cover lines all in white.
The featured mans name is located in the bottom left hand corner coloured in red, this text is also if front of the photograph. The XXL Masthead is very eye catching; it has a bright red box around the bold white writing. Also, the whole Masthead is in front of the photograph so that none of it is cut out by the photo and so it stands out more.
It is difficult to extract much information about the body positioning of the figure as the photograph is a close up, but his facial expression and clothing suggests that the image 50 cent is trying to portray fro himself Is one of a serious nature. His costume represents a ‘gangster’ look. The lighting of the poster is relatively dark and there is a visible setting/background. In my opinion the target audience of this magazine would be teenage males, based on who listens to his music the most.
